Gilbert comments on the news that Western Greyhound will cease to trade

Commenting on the news that Western Greyhound will cease to trade, St Austell & Newquay MP Stephen Gilbert said:


“As well as being a real blow for the hundred people who are losing their jobs, this news will leave thousands of people who depend on the bus to get to work, to get to the Doctors, or to get to the shops, very worried about how they will manage.  The most pressing issue is to find an alternative for these vital community bus routes and to ensure the staff have the support they need at this most difficult time.  I will be working with Cornwall Council and the local bus companies to do everything I can to reduce the impact on our communities and to restore a reliable service as soon as possible.”

Deputy Prime Minister Announces Newquay School Rebuild Funding

Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal Democrats, today visited Newquay Tretherras to announce the Government’s commitment to rebuild the school’s 1950s classroom block.

The funding is part of the ‘Priority Schools Building Programme’, which has been spearheaded by Liberal Democrats in Government, and follows months of lobbying from constituency MP, Stephen Gilbert, for Tretherras to be included in the grant allocation.
