St Austell MP Stephen Gilbert has helped to deliver over 100 new jobs at the town’s tax office in what he is describing as a “real boost for St Austell”.
There are currently 269 staff employed in the St Austell office and this recruitment is likely to take the number to over 400.
Stephen Gilbert said “In 2010 I said that I would make job creation my top priority and that’s what I have done. This news for St Austell will come on top of the 4,000 new jobs that have been created over the last five years of which 8 out of 10 are full-time permanent roles. This is a real boost for St Austell’s economy. If you want to get one of these jobs, then you can apply today.”
Over the last five years Stephen Gilbert has supported the Enterprise Zone that has created around 300 new high-skilled jobs. Stephen Gilbert stopped food-processor Tulip removing 300 jobs from Bugle and delivered funding help to create 200 more roles. Stephen Gilbert intervened to secure the air link to London that supports thousands of jobs across Cornwall and the number of apprenticeships in St Austell & Newquay has also doubled to 2,000 over the last five years.
Stephen Gilbert added “I’ve spent months arguing with Ministers that we need to invest in the tax office and I am delighted that my efforts have paid off. Parliament is dissolved on Monday and I’ve been working up to the wire to get the best for the people I represent. I’m chuffed to bits.”
