Clearing Newquay of Derelict Hotels: Sign the Petition Today

We, the undersigned, believe that derelict and abandoned buildings have a devastating effect on communities like Newquay, pose a serious health and safety risk, and are a barrier to regeneration and sustainable development; we request that the House of Commons urges the Government to bring forward legislative proposals to allow local planning authorities to charge an administration fee to cover the costs of safeguarding and assessing the sites, and to introduce a land value tax on vacant sites.

Companies and individuals should be fined for leaving buildings in a derelict condition. Failing that, the Council should have the right to take those buildings into public ownership.

How can we attract and sustain a tourist industry when the town looks like a bomb site?

Derelict buildings should not be allowed to rot away, leaving a dangerous and ugly blot on the locality. Also expense for the local council to make safe. There should be a heavy tax, even if the building is left unoccupied.

Do not like to see such eyesores when I visit from America, and it’s sad that I have to bring my daughter over to see family for the first time and show around my hometown with awful views like this, makes me very sad and ashamed to say I grew up here, especially after I have showed her pictures of Newquay in its former glory.

I will always love Newquay and surrounding areas, especially St Columb Minor, but it’s sad to say I won’t ever move back with it looking this bad 😪
